Thornhill is unusual in that it straddles two municipalities, split between Markham to the east and Vaughan to the west along Yonge Street. For a move it behaves as one area: established housing from the 1960s through 1980s, mature trees, and residential streets that are narrower than the newer subdivisions further north.
Old Thornhill, near Yonge and Centre, has heritage properties and genuinely tight access where truck size is the deciding factor. The areas around Bathurst and Clark, and east toward Bayview, are mostly detached and semi-detached family homes with single or double drives. There is also significant condo and townhome stock along Yonge and around Promenade.
